JENNIE Makes Solo Coachella History: ‘Coming Back to This Desert Feels Like a Dream’
BLACKPINK’s JENNIE delivered a mesmerizing solo performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 13, marking a significant milestone as she returned to the iconic festival stage not with her group but as a solo powerhouse.
Taking over the Outdoor Theatre stage in stylish Western-inspired attire complete with a hat and sunglasses, JENNIE kicked off her set with “Filter,” immediately captivating the massive crowd that gathered to witness her solo Coachella debut.
The performance carried special significance, as JENNIE had previously made history with BLACKPINK when they became the first K-pop girl group to perform at Coachella in 2019, later returning as headliners in 2023. Her solo appearance completes a remarkable Coachella journey that spans both group and individual achievements.
“It feels like a dream to be back in this desert performing at the Outdoor Theatre,” JENNIE told the enthusiastic audience. “I didn’t expect so many people to gather here. I think there’s really a lot of people. Thank you for coming to my Coachella stage.”
Showcasing tracks from her debut album “RUBY,” JENNIE treated fans to special festival arrangements created specifically for Coachella, differentiating the experience from her recent solo concerts in Seoul. Her performance seamlessly transitioned between charismatic and sensual vibes, backed by a live band that added warm, rich textures to her music.
The setlist featured standout moments including “Mantra,” which elevated the energy, and “Handlebars,” where JENNIE and her dancers executed flowing choreography that resembled flowers blooming in the desert setting. During “ZEN,” she displayed fierce charisma, while her performance of “F.T.S” showcased her emotional vocal prowess with a handheld microphone.
Her title track “like JENNIE” delivered powerful machine-gun-like rap verses that drove the crowd into a frenzy, with fans chanting “JENNIE! JENNIE!” after the song concluded. The large screen behind her displayed her name in Korean characters, adding a personal touch to the international stage.
One of the night’s highlights came during “Damn Right,” when featured artist Kali Uchis made a surprise appearance. “Give a big round of applause for Kali Uchis,” JENNIE announced as the two performers created a sensual atmosphere, playing off each other’s energy while navigating different levels of the stage.
Throughout the performance, fans filled the audience with BLACKPINK’s signature pink lightsticks, capturing the moment on their phones while demonstrating the global reach of JENNIE’s star power.
JENNIE will return for a second Coachella performance on April 20, following fellow BLACKPINK member LISA, who delivered her own solo set at the festival on April 11.
