NCT’s Mark Makes Solo Debut with Autobiographical ‘The Firstfruit’: ‘An Album Based on My Life Journey’
NCT’s powerhouse rapper Mark has officially made his solo debut with the release of his first album “The Firstfruit” on April 7, SM Entertainment announced.
The highly anticipated 13-track album offers fans a deeply personal glimpse into Mark’s life, structured around four cities that have shaped his identity: his hometown Toronto, his first migration destination New York, Vancouver where he spent his school years, and Seoul where he’s pursuing his musical dreams.
Title track “1999” – a vibrant pop song featuring diverse instrumental sounds – captures Mark’s sentiment that achieving this solo milestone feels as joyful as being reborn in his birth year of 1999.
“This is truly an album where I’ve poured everything into it, based on my life,” Mark explained. “I’ve incorporated all the creative energy and honest emotions I’ve accumulated over the years in the most profound way. My autobiographical story is thoroughly infused within it.”
He encouraged fans, “If you want to know more about me as a person and as an artist, please listen to ‘The Firstfruit.'”
The NCT member, known for his exceptional rapping and performance skills, shared that the solo project brought him to a place of self-discovery and appreciation. “While preparing this album, I came to love myself and the life I’ve lived more sincerely,” he revealed. “These are emotions I probably wouldn’t have known if it weren’t for this process, making it a truly special time for me.”
Mark will celebrate his debut with a showcase at FB Theater in Seoul’s Seongsu Culture and Arts Plaza at 8 PM today, where he’ll perform “1999” and other tracks from the album for the first time.
Since his debut with NCT in 2016, Mark has demonstrated his versatility by participating in multiple NCT sub-units including NCT 127, NCT DREAM, and SuperM, gradually establishing himself as one of K-pop’s most skilled all-rounders.
