Brian Lee / 10th Grade, West Ranch High School
West Ranch has welcomed several new staff members this year. Each brings unique expertise and a passion for helping students succeed. From textbooks to counseling, these new faces are already impacting campus. Mrs. Boulby has joined West Ranch as the new textbook technician, bringing her prior experience as an instructional assistant in Special Education at Rio Saco Middle School. As a textbook technician she is responsible for managing and organizing the distribution, maintenance, and inventory of textbooks and other educational materials at school; ensuring students and teachers have access to the resources they need. While she loved working with seventh and eighth graders, she was looking for a new opportunity, eventually finding the perfect fit at West Ranch. “I love it so far. It’s been great. Everyone’s really friendly and accommodating,” Mrs. Boulby shared. “The students have been really lovely. I was nervous working with a slightly older age group since I’m more used to junior high students, but everyone’s been great.” Through her passion for books, Mrs. Boulby encourages students and teachers to explore different ways to enjoy reading. “I think there is a book out there for everyone. Even people who aren’t traditionally interested in reading can try audiobooks. Everyone can find something that interests them,” she advised. For those struggling to find the right book, Mrs. Boulby suggested starting with personal interests. “One of my really good friends has ADHD and always had trouble focusing on reading, but he loves Dungeons and Dragons. Through that, he found a series of novels similar to the game and now listens to them as audiobooks,” she explained. “If you want to find a book, start with what you’re interested in and research it.” As she settles into her new role, Mrs. Boulby hopes for a smooth and successful school year. “I just hope I don’t mess anything up!” she joked. And for a fun fact, she can recite the alphabet backward! Returning to familiar halls, Dr. Perez has rejoined West Ranch as a CCR Counselor. CCR stands for College and Career Readiness, and her primary role is to guide and support students in preparing for life after high school which includes college, entering the workforce, joining the military, and pursuing other opportunities. Previously being a teacher at West Ranch for 19 years before transitioning into counseling, she is excited to be back. “I actually helped open this school,” Dr. Perez revealed. “I was a teacher here for 19 years, then left for a counseling job. When a position opened up here, I decided to come back.” Unlike traditional counselors, Dr. Perez doesn’t manage a specific group of students. Instead, she steps in whenever a counselor is out or needs assistance. “I’m just here to help out,” she explained. “If a counselor isn’t available, I take over and help students.” Although she does not know where she will be next year as her placement depends on district needs, Dr. Perez remains committed to making a difference at West Ranch while she’s here. As these new staff members settle into their roles, they are eager to contribute to the West Ranch community. Whether it is textbook or academic guidance, Mrs. Boulby and Dr. Perez are here to support students and help make this school year a success.
