LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has formally requested wildfire recovery funding from President Donald Trump’s administration, highlighting urgent needs across multiple sectors following devastating January blazes.

The board’s letter, approved unanimously, seeks direct allocation of federal and state resources for immediate disaster response and long-term rebuilding efforts.

“Our communities need every available tool to rebuild,” Board Chair Kathryn Barger told reporters. “We’re working to implement solutions like temporary housing units on properties where safe, ensuring residents can stay within their neighborhoods during reconstruction.”

The funding requests target critical areas including:

  • Emergency housing assistance
  • Environmental cleanup operations
  • Business recovery support
  • Infrastructure rehabilitation
  • Fire prevention systems

Governor Gavin Newsom has already proposed $2.5 billion in state funding, while the Biden administration earlier authorized federal firefighting resources through a major disaster declaration.

“Speed is crucial,” Supervisor Lindsey Horvath said. “These communities cannot wait months for bureaucratic processes – they need support now.”

President Trump confirmed his Friday visit to assess damage personally. “We’re bringing top reconstruction experts,” he stated via social media. “Los Angeles will rebuild better than ever.”

The January 7 wildfires prompted both local and state emergency declarations, with damages still being assessed across multiple LA County
