Following her controversial “contract termination” performance, (G)I-DLE member Soyeon’s future with the agency remains uncertain.
(G)I-DLE held their third world tour concert “(G)I-DLE WORLD TOUR ‘iDOL’ IN SEOUL” on March 3-4 at the KSPO DOME in Seoul. Soyeon’s solo performance of “Is this bad b number?” caused a stir with lyrics like “Do I need to care about others’ opinions?”, “Contract ends in November”, and “Who can stop me?”.
As the group approaches their 7th year since debut in 2018, Soyeon’s performance raised questions about contract renewal. Reports suggested it was an unplanned act without agency consultation.
Cube Entertainment’s response fueled the controversy, claiming they were unaware of Soyeon’s actions. However, the lyrics were displayed on-screen during the performance, casting doubt on the agency’s statement.
Soyeon addressed the issue on social media, explaining that she didn’t lie or intentionally hide anything from the company. She expressed disappointment in the agency’s handling of the situation, stating, “I feel the company’s inadequacy in responding to such situations once again.”
As (G)I-DLE faces contract renewal next year, all eyes are on whether this incident will affect the members’ decisions to re-sign with Cube Entertainment.
