Grace Yoo, a Korean-American candidate running for Los Angeles City Council District 10, which includes Koreatown, held a press conference today (5th) to appeal for support from Korean voters in the upcoming November election.

At her office, Yoo emphasized her competitiveness against incumbent Councilmember Heather Hutt, citing strong fundraising momentum. Yoo reported raising $160,000 as of last week, nearly double the $80,000 raised by Hutt.

Yoo highlighted that most of her campaign funds came from grassroots donors, contrasting this with Hutt’s reliance on large contributors.

Addressing one of Koreatown’s most pressing issues, Yoo pledged to tackle the lack of public safety. She noted that many Korean residents feel unsafe walking in the neighborhood, even during daylight hours, due to frequent crime occurrences.

“Korean-Americans are too often victims of terrible crimes involving guns. I will use every resource to address this,” Yoo stated.

If elected, Yoo promised to enhance communication with constituents and address concerns about homelessness, graffiti, and other issues affecting District 10 residents.

Yoo criticized the current council’s slow response to resident complaints, sometimes taking over a year, and vowed to eliminate such communication gaps.

The candidate urged Korean-Americans to participate in the November election, stressing the importance of making their voices heard and bringing change to Koreatown.

Grace Yoo, making her third bid for the District 10 seat, is a UC Riverside graduate and Seton Hall Law School alumna. She has worked as an attorney in Torrance and served as executive director of the Korean American Coalition, demonstrating long-term community involvement.
